So you’re thinking about a multi-day ride with us? That’s awesome! Let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like spending a few days on horseback exploring Tasmania’s incredible landscapes. But hey, I get it – the idea can be a bit daunting if you haven’t done it before.
## **First Things First – Your Body**
Look, I’m not gonna sugarcoat this. If you haven’t been on a horse in a while (or ever), your muscles are gonna have some opinions after day one. Start getting ready at least a few weeks before:
– Do some squats. Seriously. Your thighs will thank you later
– Stretch those hip flexors – YouTube has tons of rider stretches
– Walk more. Sounds simple but it helps with stamina
– If you can squeeze in a shorter ride before the big trip, do it!
I’ve seen too many people show up thinking “how hard can it be?” Trust me on this one.
## **What to Pack (The Real Essentials)**
Forget those fancy equestrian catalogs for a minute. Here’s what you actually need:
**Clothing:**
– Long pants – jeans work great, just make sure they’re comfy
– Layers! Tasmania weather is… unpredictable. Think t-shirt, long sleeve, fleece, rain jacket
– Two pairs of riding boots or sturdy shoes (one might get wet)
– Hat with a chin strap – the wind out here doesn’t mess around
– Gloves if your hands blister easily
**The Stuff People Forget:**
– Sunscreen (you’re higher up on a horse, closer to that Aussie sun)
– Lip balm with SPF
– Personal first aid kit – band-aids for blisters especially
– Your own water bottles – staying hydrated is huge
– Snacks that won’t melt or get squished
## **Mental Prep (Yeah, It’s a Thing)**
Multi-day rides aren’t just physical. You’re gonna be:
– Away from wifi (gasp!)
– Getting up early
– Possibly dealing with weather changes
– Bonding with a 500kg animal who has their own personality
Best advice? Come with an open mind. Some of my best memories are from when things didn’t go exactly to plan. That time we got caught in the rain? Still laugh about it.
## **The Night Before**
Okay so tomorrow’s the big day:
– Charge everything – phone, camera, power bank
– Pack light but smart. You don’t need three books
– Eat a good dinner but nothing too heavy or weird
– Actually get some sleep (easier said than done when you’re excited, I know)
– Double-check the weather forecast one more time
## **Day One Reality Check**
Your first morning might go something like this:
– Wake up excited/nervous
– Question your life choices for about 30 seconds
– Meet your horse and instantly fall in love
– Realize this is gonna be amazing
Don’t try to be a hero on day one. Listen to your guide (that might be me!), take breaks when offered, and speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
## **The Little Things That Make a Big Difference**
– Bring wet wipes. Just… trust me
– Take photos but don’t live behind your camera
– Chat with your horse – they actually like it
– Embrace being offline. When’s the last time you did that?
– Pack some chocolate or your favorite treat for day two when you’re sore
## **After Each Day**
Stretch! Even if you feel fine. Do some gentle stretches before bed:
– Touch your toes (or try to)
– Butterfly stretch for those inner thighs
– Gentle twists for your back
Drink more water than you think you need. And maybe have a beer if that’s your thing – you’ve earned it.
## **The Bottom Line**
Here’s the thing – you don’t need to be an expert rider or super fit athlete to enjoy a multi-day trip with us. You just need to be prepared, realistic about your abilities, and ready for an adventure.
We’ve got riders from all backgrounds join us – office workers who haven’t seen a horse since they were kids, experienced riders looking for new trails, couples trying something different. They all leave with huge smiles and stories to tell.
The Tasmanian wilderness from horseback? It’s something special. You’ll see wedge-tailed eagles soaring overhead, maybe spot some wallabies, definitely breathe the cleanest air you’ve had in ages.
So yeah, prepare your body, pack smart, come with the right attitude. But mostly? Just come ready to disconnect from the crazy world and reconnect with nature, your horse, and maybe parts of yourself you forgot were there.
Can’t wait to ride with you! Give us a call if you’ve got questions – we’re pretty easy going and happy to chat about what to expect.
See you on the trails,
**Bryce**
*P.S. – Seriously though, don’t forget the wet wipes. And maybe some ibuprofen. You’ll understand by day two.* 😉
